I hope this is the right form for this post.
I currently reside in Okinawa and am having a problem recording the shows.
How are you guys getting them?

My US Panasonic DVD recorder gives a "Copy protected signal" error when I try to record.
I have tried to record the programs on my (Japanese Sharp HD/DVD recorder) DVR in the TV room, and watch them on my DVD player (US) in my bedroom and can not.
They are only playable in the machine that recorded them.

I get either a "Bad disc" or "Incompatible Disc" error on DVD players, and the computer (Windows and Linux) can not read the disc's.

How are people getting copies of the shows to subtitle?
Do I have to buy a descrambler or copy protection remover or something to put between my Japanese Digital Cable box and my Japanese DVD recorder?

I have a Japanese market Sharp HD/DVD recorder that receives HiVision HD broadcasts as well as standard NTSC analogue signals.
